BIRDHOUSE: FORM & ITERATION

2021

Stoneware, felt, poplar, walnut,

oak, plywood, sugi ban

Residency work

Minneapolis, MN

Designed around the chickadee and golden proportions, I built 35 birdhouses, iterating the form and material between each one. Poplar, walnut, oak, plywood, clay and felt all found themselves being formed into birdhouses. Sugi-ban burning, dry joinery, soda firing, and shooting with a rifle were all finishing techniques employed.

These 35 were installed at Truckstop Gallery in Minneapolis as a commentary on my experience growing up and living in the Minneapolis.
